When my heart has a difficult time understanding why the Universe has moved events in a certain way, I find myself relating to this verse written by the fifth Sikh Master, Guru Arjan. It comes from a song called, “Sukhmani.” The Mind and the Jewel of Peace and Comfort.
This is a draft of a poetic interpretation of those lines. Grateful to share it with you today.
The One who is the Doer
Causes all the deeds to be done.
How can the hand of a person do anything?
Things unfold according to how the Divine One perceives it.
The Creative Master is absolutely by Itself
And continually within Itself.
Whatever the Master loves,
That is what He does.
He is far away from everyone,
And with everyone keeps company.
The Divine deeply understands,
Observes
And has insight into what is truly happening.
Thou, within Thyself, are One,
Thou, within Thyself, are many.
You are not destroyed by death.
You do not come and go.
Oh Naanak,
The Divine remains merged within Itself
Forever.
Sukhmani. 12-6. Guru Arjan Dev ji.
